In September, we traveled to the Big Island of Hawaii to dive and visit Mary's sister and brother-in-law. We dove most of the time with Dive Makai. They were great, a mother and daughter team that knows how to make diving fun for experienced divers.

They took us snorkeling in blue water with pilot whales! The single oceanic white tip shark accompanied the herd to clean up the table scraps.

Hawaii is about colorful fish, and we certainly saw plenty. The pipefish really thought he was something else.

We saw red and white leaf fish, but only the white one posed for a photo.

What lives on the wire coral?? Fish and crab make their homes there.

One day an eagle ray stayed with us most of a dive.

And a hawksbill turtle.

Nudibranchs were not as abundant as other places we have been, but they were there. Pink eggs even.
The yellow one is really interesting. Kendra says he is a "gold lace".

Kendra gets a manacure.

One dive had quite an area of garden eels. Most had moreys. Mary got up close with one.

And yet more interesting invertabrate life
